People, Helping People, Connect to God!
At Akron First Assembly (AFA), the Bible is our standard. Our standard of living and all that we teach and believe come directly from God’s Word. Our identity, rooted in God’s Word, is that we must people who help people connect to God. We strive to authentically live out our identity through three primary areas:
Ministry to God - Our Foundation for Living
We all need God, but we are all separated from Him because of sin. Jesus gave His life being crucified on a cross for the price of our eternity, and rose from the dead. When we choose to believe in Jesus as our Savior, this is salvation.
Once we receive salvation, we worship Him by following in His footsteps and obeying His Word. From our gratefulness and joy of salvation, we worship Him with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We have the opportunity to have a personal relationship with God as we live to worship Him!
Ministry to Each Other - The Body of Christ
Jesus says that we should love our neighbor as ourselves. God desires for us to have relationships with one another- it’s the second greatest commandment. We are called to help and build up one another in our faith and love of God.
The Body of Christ reaches beyond the four walls of our building. It’s people- fellow believers in Jesus. We intentionally connect with the body of Christ nationally, and internationally.
Ministry to the World - Evangelism & Missions
Jesus commissioned His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, and teach them to obey all the commandments and teachings of Jesus. He wants all people to have the opportunity to follow Him and become part of His family through relationship with Jesus.
We believe that we are called to reach our city with the Gospel truth of Jesus. We also believe we are called to participate in world missions to reach people with the truth of Jesus.

Akron First continues to root itself in the Salvation Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the Great Commission found in the Book of Matthew, Chapter 28 with a commitment to bringing that Word to a seeking and needy world. We do that through personal involvement in our local neighborhoods as well as sending teams throughout the U.S. and the world.
Isaiah 6: 8 says "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" AFA has a rich heritage on people being obedient to that call. Our youth often focus on evangelism through puppet shows, dramas, and community service. Their most recent trips have been to Mexico and Peru. We also send construction teams to assist with the building or remodeling of new churches, orphanages, schools and other areas of need. This type of ministry allows us to be a true and real testimony of God's Word through our actions. The people not only hear of the love of Christ, often through translators, as we labor side by side with them but they get to see God's love through our sweat and time as well. It is truly a labor of love and we always return home more blessed than when we left.
With the call of who shall I send there are those that for any number of reasons can not go. That does not prohibit them from serving the Lord through their support in prayer and finances. While a team may consist of 15 or 20 laborers there are many more that serve with them. And, while we can not send teams to every part of the world we can and we do support an array of missionaries that serve full time in both local and international ministries.
